OUR HISTORY
The first ever handbound book I can remember holding in my hands was the book given to me by Ilira, my then girlfriend (And now wife!), for my 23rd birthday. It's a book she made completely by hand with materials and tools available at local art stores. She even marbleized her own paper - how cool is that? I was impressed by the complexity and simplicity of the book and I decided to venture to learn this 'lost art' of bookbinding myself...

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
The environmental impact of the production of our products is a matter of the materials used to create Rag & Bone Books and their environmental impact. The paper pages for our books and our paper goods contain 30% Post Consumer Content and are sourced from a local mill which is FSC Certified. Our printed goods - from books to packaging to collateral materials - are printed by a local FSC certified printer. The covers for our books (book board) contain 100% recycled content with a minimum 75% post consumer waste. The adhesives we use are produced using natural (no synthetic) ingredients and are manufactured in a local facility - within driving distance to the Bindery.
The entire manufacturing process is done in-house in our Rhode Island based bookbinding studio - no overseas sourcing of any finished goods or components. We hire & train local bookbinders and manufacture our books from design to material handling to binding and finishing. As the majority of our raw materials are sourced either locally (preferred) or domestically, the impact on transporting materials is reduced. Our products are archival and are created to last a lifetime. Rag & Bone Books are intended to be displayed on the shelves of our customers for years to come, they are not expected to end up in landfills. Rag & Bone donates unused materials to Rhode Island Recycling for Education.
